The Devil’s Promises

Satan promised God four things. Firstly, he said that he will lead the human beings astray. You look at most of humanity today and instead of becoming the servants of Rahman, they have become the servants of Shaytan.

Then, he said that he will give humanity false passions and desires. You can broadly define these in two categories: one is your carnal desires, desires for the flesh.  Today’s society is a sex-driven, sex-made society that promotes sex as long as you have safe sex.

According to them, it’s a physical thing while as per Islamic epistemology, it’s a spiritual thing. When a husband comes to his wife, he prays to Allah Almighty to safeguard the child, and the Muslim scholars say that this is the first right of the child.

This is in stark contrast with today’s society where there is supposed to be something seriously wrong with you if you haven’t lost your virginity by the age of 16. Out of the seven categories of people who be under the shade of God’s throne on the Day of Judgement will be a young man who grew up in the worship of Allah Azzawajal.

What is the second category? The Devil will delude you in succumbing to the false aspirations of this worldly life. He will make the Duniya the purpose of your life. Not only will he make this world the purpose of your life, but he won’t even give you time to reflect on the actual purpose of your existence.

They give you your tv videos, your video sets, your DVDs, your satellite channels so that you have more channels than you can even count and then, they give you your camera phones and voice-activated mobile phones.

Then, they give you the internet, and they give you the internet on your mobile phones just like the posters say: “You can shop till you drop…dead”. When you drop dead, the same Devil will say; “Don’t blame me! Blame yourself! I called you and you obliged”. 

You will be suckered like the billions who were suckered before you. Allah Azzawajal tells us not to forget our portion of Dunya and Imam Qurtubi said that your portion of Dunya is your shroud (grave clothes), the only thing that you take from this world.

The third promise of Satan was that he would command the human beings to slit the ear of the cattle. The reference here is to a superstitious Arabian custom. It was customary among the Arabs that after the animal had given birth to five or ten young to slit her ears and let her go in the name of their deity; they considered it forbidden to put her to any work. Likewise, the male camel that had caused the birth of ten camels was consecrated to some deity. The slitting of ears symbolized the consecration.

Modern Manifestations of Satan’s Influence

This means that a time will come when the Devil will tell man to disfigure his creation. Today’s society is a consumer society where they try to create chickens without feathers. Recently, in Switzerland, they found a fruit fly and from that fruit fly, they found a gene which they dubbed eyeless and wherever they injected that gene, they would notice that an eye would grow. This is man playing with the creation of Allah Azzawajal.

It doesn’t stop there. You look at those who reached the pinnacle of success. Take Michael Jackson. God gave him a handsome personality, but he was deluded by his worldly success and thought there must be some more contentment out there but the only time when you can really have contentment is when you recognize your creation. He started playing around with his features and disfigured himself to a point where he didn’t even look like a human being anymore.

The fourth promise of the Devil was that he would command the people to change the creation of Allah. The traditional interpretation of this was to shave your beard or pluck your eyebrows. However, because the book of God Almighty transcends time and space, it is relevant for all eras. Today, it relates to our genetically modified foods. This is changing the normal process.

When they take the anti-freeze gene from the Arctic fish and they inject into our tomatoes, so they have a longer shelf life, this is playing with the creation of Allah Azzawajal because fish don’t have relationship with tomatoes.

It doesn’t work like that. Worse than that is the man who comes on the television set and says that he is a woman trapped in the body of a man and vice versa. This is tampering with God’s creation. What could be a bigger change that that?

On an annual basis, billions of dollars are being spent on television shows and other social media to promote these things in our society. Iblees and his demonic army are using every second to delude people, eliminate their moral values and encourage them to change the creation of Allah, changing the creation in a manner that human beings end up resembling animals.

Statistics and Trends

The desire to alter physical appearance has become a major global phenomenon. According to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, more than 34 million cosmetic procedures (surgical and non-surgical combined) were performed worldwide in 2023. These included over 15 million surgical procedures and nearly 19 million non-surgical procedures such as Botox and dermal fillers.

The cosmetic surgery industry is valued at over $70 billion globally and is projected to continue growing. In addition, surveys indicate that tattoos have become increasingly common, with approximately 30–40% of adults in several Western countries reporting that they have at least one tattoo. These figures illustrate how physical modification and aesthetic enhancement have become deeply embedded in contemporary culture.

Advances in biotechnology have likewise transformed humanity's ability to alter living organisms. More than 190 million hectares of genetically modified crops are cultivated worldwide, with major producers including the United States, Brazil, and Argentina. It is estimated that over 70% of processed foods in some countries contain ingredients derived from genetically modified crops.

Furthermore, modern gene-editing technologies such as CRISPR Gene Editing have enabled scientists to modify DNA with unprecedented precision, leading to hundreds of ongoing research projects involving human, animal, and plant genetics. While supporters emphasize potential benefits in medicine and agriculture, these developments have generated significant ethical and religious discussions regarding the extent to which humans should intervene in natural biological processes and whether certain forms of alteration constitute a change to the creation of Allah.

The Quran and Sunnah: The Path to Guidance and Success

Do you still think that all of these things are just for fun? The Devil laughs at you when you let his promises come true. He wants the children of Adam to be lower than animals in rank. That’s why he convinces people to change their appearance and follow their carnal desires.

Don’t think that the Devil has some mysterious force which makes him able to delude you. He is at the top of the system and there are people who run his plans and the society follows them. It’s as simple as that. Keep yourself and your children far from his traps and teach your family moral values and nurture them with the book of Allah Subhanawu Tallah.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that the Quran is a thing which passes verdict between you, which differentiates between right and wrong. If you take it as a jest, then remember the words of the Prophet (PBUH) when he said; “Whoever seeks guidance in other than the Book of Allah, because of arrogance, because he believes that his guidance lies in some other philosophy, then, Allah will break his neck.”

Its not difficult to understand why the Muslim Ummah is in decadent status today. The Prophet (PBUH) articulated this 1400 years ago that when the Muslims think that their honor lies somewhere else apart from Islam, then, Allah Almighty will disgrace them. Look at the Holy Companions of the Prophet (PBUH).

They were at one time regarded as the lowest of the low, and then, the Prophet (PBUH) came. He brought an impetus which was Islam and then, these very people who were regarded as the worst of the people, became the best of the people to walk upon the earth. "You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah." (Holy Quran 3:110)

Conclusion

For other people, other philosophies and ideologies might work, but, for the Muslims, nothing other than Islam will work. The only time the Muslims had respect was when they held on to the religion of Allah Azzawajal. They day they turned away from Islam, God Almighty turned away from them.

Till we realize that the problem that we have today is because we have turned away from Allah Almighty and till we go back to the Quran and the Sunnah, nothing will get better. We look for remedies elsewhere other than where we should and this is exactly and precisely why we are in a sick and sorry state.

Aren’t we sick today? Aren’t the minds of the youth confused? Mainstream society has many impulses. It will pull you in many directions and the more directions you go in, the more confused you will be.

The only remedy for sea sickness is coming up to the top deck and seeing something totally straight like the horizon. Then, all the confusion is removed. Your ultimate guides in this world are the Quran and Sunnah. Don’t be deceived!
